Gjorgievski announces measures to prevent peer violence

Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgievski announced that the City of Skopje and the Ministry of Education and Science will soon present a package of measures intended to reduce and prevent peer violence among children and pupils.

The announcement came on 3 September 2026, during the presentation of new municipal hygiene vehicles, where Gjorgievski responded to questions about the recent stabbing in Skopje in which a 13-year-old boy was wounded and is fighting for his life.

Gjorgievski said the measures are being prepared in cooperation with the minister of education, Janevska, and that experts will be involved in the process.

Plans include work with pupils and parents

"We are preparing another, larger set of measures together in cooperation with the Minister of Education, Janevska, with whom we have excellent cooperation, but also strong, strong support in that area, so in the coming period we will come out with a whole set of measures and you will witness what we will begin as a process, and it will have an impact. I am convinced, in the long run, that we will have fewer such cases," Gjorgievski said.

He added that expert teams will work both with pupils and with parents. "Sometimes the fault, I would say, lies with some of the children, but much more often the fault lies with the parents, who unfortunately allow children to behave in that way. But we will give our all to help in that process. You know that I, as mayor of the City of Skopje, one of the things I did in the past period is to ensure that phones are not present during lessons in secondary schools," Gjorgievski said after the presentation of the new vehicles for municipal waste collection.
