Golden State preparing max contract plan for Nikola Jokic

Golden State Warriors are preparing for a potential roster shake-up next season and have their eyes on Denver center Nikola Jokic, according to NBA reporter Jake Fischer. The report says the Warriors are monitoring Jokic’s contract situation with the idea that he might become available next summer.

Warriors hope to create cap space for a max deal

Fischer reports that Golden State is weighing whether it can free enough salary-cap room to offer a maximum contract. The team believes it could be an opportunity to add a generational talent while keeping its existing core led by Steph Curry.

As Fischer put it: "The Warriors are among the teams asking themselves: Are we sure that Nikola Jokic won't be available next summer? They hope they could have enough cap space for a maximum contract, and they also have Steph Curry," he said.

The reporter noted that Golden State still sees itself as capable of landing a major star, citing previous moves and attempts as context. He pointed to the signing of Jimmy Butler as an example that at times worked well until Butler suffered an injury.

Fischer added historical context about past pursuits: "They failed to bring Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kevin Durant didn't want to return when that was discussed toward the end of one of the previous trade deadlines. Still, they continue to believe that next summer they can attract a big name, either via trade or on the free agent market," Fischer added.

At this stage, Fischer did not report any concrete offers or ongoing negotiations for Jokic. The information describes Golden State's interest and preparatory planning rather than an active deal.
