Wildfire in Himara burns six houses; no injuries reported
A fast-spreading coastal fire on the night of September 4–5, 2026 destroyed six houses; firefighters continue to battle the blaze as residents and tourists evacuate.
A large wildfire broke out on the night of September 4–5, 2026 in the municipality of Himara along Albania's coast, quickly spreading under strong winds and threatening nearby settlements, correspondent Mikel Marsi reported.
Authorities say the blaze has completely destroyed six houses — three of them inhabited and three empty — and forced several residents and tourists to abandon their homes and move to safer locations. Initial reports indicate there were no injuries.
Fire spread and response
Shortly before 2:00 a.m. a new fire erupted in another house, increasing panic among families in the area. Firefighters continued working through the morning to bring the flames under control and extinguish hot spots, while crews assessed the material damage.
The Media and Information Agency issued an alarm, stating: "THIRRJE URGJENTE PËR EVAKUIM për Himarën. Urgjente është situata edhe në fshatrat e Fierit, Levan, me disa shtëpi të djegura... @ediramaal o plehr, po të akuzojnë ty për mos reagim në kohë. pic.twitter.com/d4ve5N0g0" — a message that authorities said prompted urgent evacuation calls.
The large coastal blaze adds to a summer marked by major fires across the region, with incidents reported this season in Serbia, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, France and Spain.
Emergency teams continued containment and extinguishing efforts; local officials warned residents to follow evacuation orders and stay clear of affected zones while damage assessments and cleanup begin.
