After months in which drivers faced long waits to leave North Macedonia and enter Greece, the heaviest congestion has moved to the opposite lane: cars and buses seeking entry into North Macedonia are now experiencing the longest delays.
Passengers travelling toward the Greek coast posted about the situation on social media, reporting exit queues on the Greek side and delays that in some cases reached about three hours. One Facebook post summarized the mood: "The trip to the sea is easier, even three hours... but on the way back home, every minute feels like an eternity."
Border officials have not published an official estimate of processing times for this specific day, but travellers advised others to expect significant delays when planning return journeys. The shift in congestion appears linked to peak holiday movements and increased traffic heading back toward North Macedonia.
Drivers were urged to check live updates where available and to allow extra time for crossings at Evzoni. Authorities typically increase staffing and open additional lanes during peak holiday periods, but travellers warned that even such measures may not prevent long waits when volumes spike.
