Anthony Gordon: At Barcelona they point you out if you lack technique
The England international says his summer transfer to Camp Nou allowed him to show a more technical and intelligent side of his play.
Anthony Gordon says his move to Barcelona this summer has given him the chance to reveal a different side of his game, one that is more focused on touch and tactical reading than the role he played in England.
The England international arrived at Camp Nou from Newcastle in the summer of 2026 and told reporters that Spanish football places greater emphasis on technique and on understanding the game.
Gordon on perception and priorities
Gordon contrasted how he was viewed in England with how he is valued at Barcelona. "In England I always felt that I was respected because I'm quick and I press, but they didn't sufficiently value the quality and intelligence with which I play," he said, underlining that his attributes go beyond pace.
Discussing the Catalan club's philosophy, he added: "At Barcelona, if you are not technically equipped, they immediately point you out," stressing the premium the club puts on technical skill.
Gordon's remarks come as he seeks to settle into Barcelona's style and demonstrate the broader range of his abilities in La Liga and European competition.
