Skopje and eight municipalities receive 49 new sanitation vehicles and equipment

Skopje and eight other municipalities — Kumanovo, Prilep, Ohrid, Tetovo, Negotino, Kichevo, Debar and Veles — have been allocated 49 new vehicles and specialized sanitation equipment intended for street cleaning and communal services.

The package includes 19 multifunctional trucks of various types, nine specialized trucks and cisterns, and 21 additional multifunctional vehicles. The Municipal Public Enterprise Komunalna Higiena in Skopje will receive about twenty special vehicles for permanent use, including trucks with capacities of 3, 8, 17 and 20 cubic metres, street-washing tankers and mechanical sweepers.

Procurement and financing

The acquisition was carried out through the Ministry of Transport as part of a long-term project with the World Bank for the revitalisation and construction of new local and regional roads, implemented across municipalities nationwide.

At the presentation of the vehicles, Minister of Transport and Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski said the procurement was completed through a transparent process and that, from an estimated value of €5.5 million, the equipment was purchased for €4.2 million, achieving a saving of around €1.3 million.

Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgievski said the modern machinery will allow faster, more efficient and more regular waste collection, contributing to cleaner public spaces and a healthier environment for all citizens. He announced that the City of Skopje is additionally purchasing further specialised vehicles and more than 3,300 new containers, with the procurement procedure in its final phase.

Local authorities expect the new fleet and equipment to improve the speed and quality of street cleaning across the beneficiary municipalities once the vehicles are put into service.
