Heating season in Skopje starts October 13, 2026 — two days early
ESM Heat Supply says the earlier start follows a UHMR forecast of a 12 °C mean temperature that meets RKE criteria.

ESM Heat Supply announced that the heating season for consumers connected to Skopje's central systems will begin on October 13, 2026 — two days earlier than the official start date.
Why the early start
The official opening of the season is scheduled for October 15, but regulations allow an earlier start between October 1 and 15 if the forecasted mean outdoor temperature for the following day is equal to or below 12 °C. The Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR) predicted a mean temperature of 12 °C for October 13, which met the criteria set by the Energy Regulatory Commission (RKE).
ESM Heat Supply said the company will publish daily updates on its website until October 15 about whether conditions for delivering heat are met for the next day.
Throughout October and the first half of November, deliveries of heat will fluctuate according to air temperature and other weather conditions. When temperatures fall, heat output increases; when temperatures rise, it is reduced.
When measured atmospheric conditions cross the established thresholds, heat delivery is suspended and the system is switched off. It is turned back on immediately after temperatures fall below the thresholds. ESM Heat Supply stated this regulated approach aims to ensure optimal energy use and keep consumers' heating costs to a minimum.
