Grossi: IAEA mission in Iran will continue
IAEA chief says operations will proceed regardless of any UN Security Council referral and urges access for inspectors.
IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi said the agency will keep carrying out its work in Iran regardless of whether a United Nations Security Council resolution is adopted to refer the case to the council.
Grossi called on Tehran to supply concrete information about the condition of its nuclear facilities, including any changes in stockpiles and explanations for why inspectors have been denied access to specific sites.
He also said that, up to now, the necessary channels of communication with Iranian authorities have not been established.
Path to a constructive outcome
According to Grossi, the quickest way to reach a positive result is for Iran to engage seriously with the IAEA, grant inspectors the access they need and address security and confidentiality concerns.
He argued that such a process would help preserve peace rather than produce another conflict.
The IAEA chief's comments reiterate the agency's stance that technical dialogue and on-site verification remain central to resolving outstanding questions about Iran's nuclear programme.
