Server of the State Audit Office hacked — fraudulent messages sent from the director's email
Fraudulent messages are being sent from the official email of director Maksim Acevski; the Office's IT sector and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are working on the case.
The server of the State Audit Office has been compromised and fraudulent, phishing messages are being sent from the official email of director Maksim Acevski, the Office announced.
According to the announcement, the fraudulent messages are spreading across the country, and some of them have reached the Office's associates and partners abroad.
The Office's IT sector has been notified of the incident and is working to remediate the issue, and the case has been reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Office's website remains available for now and continues to publish audit reports that note irregularities in institutions.
Warning from the Ministry of Internal Affairs
A few days earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a warning about an increased number of phishing scams spreading via fake SMS messages, email, counterfeit websites, mobile applications and social media messages.
The Ministry noted that scammers often falsely present themselves as notifications from the Department of Motor Vehicles or from the "Safe City" system and direct citizens to fake websites where they are asked to make payments for alleged traffic offenses.
The State Audit Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs call for caution: do not open suspicious messages, and report such incidents while investigations are ongoing.
