Even while leading the line for Manchester City, Erling Haaland found time to join a social-media spat about a rival fan's hairstyle. The City striker weighed in on a viral stunt by Manchester United supporter Frank Ilet and told him to sort out his hair.
Online stunt and a simple reply
Ilet, who runs the fan channel The United Strand, pledged in October 2024 that he would not cut his hair until Manchester United recorded five consecutive wins. In February the 30-year-old came close: United beat Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham, but drew 1-1 with West Ham in the fifth match.
Nearly 300,000 viewers watched Ilet’s live reaction to that draw on Kick, and the episode has continued to circulate on social platforms. City’s blistering start to the current Premier League season — five straight wins over Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Coventry, Manchester United and Sunderland — sharpened the narrative among rival fans that Haaland had timed his own haircut for City's fifth victory.
Ilet himself rejected that reading: "I personally don't think there's any connection. If that were the case, he would have cut his hair after the fifth win against United, not after the seventh against Sunderland," he wrote. Haaland's short reply followed shortly after: "Get a haircut, man."
The exchange has been widely shared online, with supporters pointing out that Manchester United had not managed five wins in a row for 717 days — a stat that added fuel to the discussion. Off the pitch, Haaland remains central to City's unbeaten run while United struggle early in the campaign.
