Croatia to raise one‑time payment for newborns to €803

Croatia will raise its one‑time cash payment for a newborn child to €803 from €613, effective 1 January 2027, the country’s Minister of Demography and Migration, Ivan Šipić, said today. A bill to amend the law that would allow future increases is to be submitted to the procedure shortly, he added.

Šipić told reporters after a Government session that nearly €28 million has been allocated annually to implement the measure.

Timing and legal steps

According to the draft amendment to the Law on Maternity and Parental Allowances, the Government will determine the support amount for the following year in December 2026 so the new figure can take effect on 1 January 2027.

The proposal states the one‑off payment is planned to be increased from the current €618 to €803, representing a rise from 140 to 182 percent of the budget base.

Commenting on the measure, Minister Šipić said: "Demography has no alternative for the Croatian Government, this is a fundamental issue and the Government will find the means for it."
