Humanoid robot Lightning runs 100 meters in 9.32 seconds, faster than human world record

A humanoid robot named Lightning completed a 100‑meter run in 9.32 seconds, a mark that overtakes the fastest recorded time for a human sprinter.

The machine was built by the Chinese smartphone maker Honor and reached a top speed of 14.5 meters per second during a test event staged as part of the Second World Games for Humanoid Robots, which are taking place this weekend.

The 9.32‑second run is faster than the men's world record of 9.58 seconds set by Usain Bolt 17 years ago at the World Championships in Berlin.

Technical note and setting

The performance took place in a controlled test environment for the robot competition; the organizers ran timed trials over the standard 100‑meter distance and recorded peak speed and finish time for the machine.

The result underscores rapid advances in robotics locomotion and control software, as humanoid platforms designed by consumer technology firms increasingly target dynamic tasks once reserved for biological runners.

The Second World Games for Humanoid Robots continue this weekend, where additional trials and demonstrations of agility and speed for different robot designs are scheduled.
