Houthis say drone hit Aramco refinery in Jazan
Houthis say the attack was retaliation for Saudi drone operations over Hajjah and Saada; Saudi Energy Ministry reports a fire but no casualties.
Houthi rebels said today they struck an oil facility in the southwest of Saudi Arabia, reporting that a drone targeted the Aramco refinery in Jazan.
A Houthi spokesperson said the operation was carried out in response to what they described as violations of Yemeni airspace by Saudi drones over the provinces of Hajjah and Saada.
The Saudi Ministry of Energy said a fire broke out at the Aramco refinery and that there were no casualties. The ministry did not specify what caused the blaze.
Escalation and regional implications
Today’s attack by the Iran-backed Houthis is the latest in a string of missile and drone strikes aimed at Saudi Arabia and at ships transiting the Red Sea.
Analysts warn that such strikes risk reigniting broader conflict inside Yemen — more than four years after a ceasefire brought a halt to fighting in the impoverished Arab country.
