Igor Stefanovski — Idže to race a Norma prototype, a first for North Macedonia

On 05.08.2026 European hill-climb champion Igor Stefanovski — known as Idže — announced a major step in his racing career: this season he will compete in a prototype class, driving a Norma prototype, the most powerful and prestigious category in hill-climb competition.

Stefanovski becomes the first North Macedonian driver to race a prototype car at official international events, a move that elevates the country’s presence in top-level European hill climbs.

Speaking about the transition, Stefanovski said: "I am opening a new chapter in my career. I have dreamed of this moment my whole life. I will be the first driver from the Balkans to race the Norma prototype, one of only 12 such cars built in the world. It is an extremely powerful vehicle, a prototype whose technology and performance are close to Formula 1 cars."

The Norma prototype is purpose-built for competition: an ultralight chassis, exceptional power-to-weight ratio and advanced aerodynamics designed to extract maximum grip and speed on demanding mountain roads. Operating such a car requires peak physical fitness, extensive experience and flawless precision behind the wheel.

Stefanovski tested the car on Vodno, the hill where his racing career began, and said the team will enter a highly competitive field across European hill events. The move aims at immediate competitiveness and new podiums in the continental series.

Beyond individual ambitions, Stefanovski’s programme marks a milestone for North Macedonian motorsport — bringing the country into one of the sport’s highest technical classes and setting new standards for future competitors.
