INA completes €700 million upgrade; Rijeka refinery raises diesel output
New unit for heavy-residue processing is in trial operation; Q3 diesel output 366,000 tonnes, up about 8% year‑on‑year.

Croatian oil company INA has completed a major refinery upgrade in Rijeka worth nearly €700 million, increasing its capacity to produce diesel and improving fuel supply flexibility for the region.
The new unit for processing heavy oil residues has already entered trial operation, and early indicators show higher fuel output at a moment when European diesel supply is constrained.
INA reports that in the third quarter the Rijeka refinery produced 366,000 tonnes of diesel, about an 8 percent increase compared with the same period last year. Diesel output for the first nine months reached 927,000 tonnes.
Technical and market implications
The modernization allows the refinery to process a wider range of crude oils and to convert heavier residues into fuels with higher market value. INA also notes that access to seaborne transport increases flexibility in crude procurement and the delivery of refined products.
The investment comes amid uncertainty on the European energy market, where additional production capacity could help stabilize supply for Croatia and neighbouring countries.
INA's financial results for the first nine months of 2026 also improved markedly: the company posted a net profit of €303.6 million, up 115 percent year‑on‑year. Revenues rose 29.3 percent to €3.95 billion, while capital expenditures totalled €250.5 million.
