An inclusive cycling tour that will welcome people with and without disabilities is scheduled for 15 August in Pretor, Prespa, as part of the "Prespanski avanTURI" project. The organizers say the initiative aims to underline that nature, recreation and tourist offers must be accessible to everyone and that cycling is not reserved for people without disabilities.

Route, time and program

The ride will start at 09:00 from the crossroads near Pretor and follow the lakeshore to Slivnica before returning to Pretor. Besides standard bicycles, participants will be able to ride adaptive bicycles designed for people with disabilities. After the ride the program continues with a picnic, socializing, and a presentation and trial of the adaptive bikes.

Organizers emphasize that the event is intended to be both recreational and demonstrative: to show that with proper adjustments, mainstream outdoor activities can include participants with reduced mobility or other impairments.

"There are no other cycling tours in Macedonia that include people with adaptive bicycles. We want to raise this issue to a higher level, to show that such activities are necessary, so that later other organizers adapt their events for people with disabilities," says Gere Tripkov of the Ikuality association, which is organizing the tour together with Idnina na tradicijata from Resen.

Those interested in taking part are invited to arrive before 09:00 at the start point; organizers recommend wearing appropriate clothing for a lakeside ride and note that adaptive bicycles will be available to try during the event.
