Three MPs did not speak in the Assembly in the first half of last year, tool shows
A new searchable database by the Institute for Democracy Societas Civilis – Skopje shows attendance and participation gaps among MPs in the first half of last year.
Three members of the Assembly did not speak at all during the first half of last year, according to a new search tool published by the Institute for Democracy Societas Civilis – Skopje.
The tool shows that DUI leader Ali Ahmeti, DPA leader Menduh Taci and VMRO-DPMNE MP Valentina Marchevska never took the floor to speak, did not submit parliamentary questions, did not propose a law or amendment, and were not members of any parliamentary committee during that six‑month period.
Attendance and activity figures
Attendance records differ sharply: Marchevska attended all 56 plenary sessions in the period, while Ahmeti was present at only three and Taci at four. Other MPs with low attendance included Sadula Duraki (15 sessions), Skender Redzepi from Populi (16) and Valjbona Adili – Emini from BESA (16) out of 56.
Across the whole Assembly, the database indicates that 45 of the 120 MPs never spoke in a plenary debate, two‑thirds did not file a parliamentary question, 36 did not participate in proposing amendments, and 13 did not sign any draft law.
Assembly publications already provide activity reports for MPs, but the new searchable interface makes it easier to see who did what. The Institute for Democracy Societas Civilis – Skopje argues that greater transparency and accountability are positive steps.
"At the moment, given how deputies are elected in our Assembly, citizens do not have an opportunity to vote for individual names but vote for lists that have been previously determined by political parties, so this could also be a useful mechanism for the political parties themselves to see how the people they placed on those lists perform, i.e. how they convey the moment of representation in the Assembly," said Aleksandra Jovevska Gjorgjevic of the Institute for Democracy Societas Civilis – Skopje.
The tool also lists the most active MPs in the first half of last year as Bojan Stojanovski (VMRO‑DPMNE), Sali Murati (Movement of the Turks), Jovanka Trencevska (SDSM), Toni Yarevski (VMRO‑DPMNE) and Daniela Nikolova (SDSM).
