AC Milan and Inter Milan hit by lawsuit over San Siro land sale
A local resident has sued over the November 5, 2025 transfer of land to Stadio San Siro SpA, threatening to slow the clubs' new-stadium plans.
AC Milan and Inter Milan's joint-stadium project has encountered a fresh legal obstacle after a lawsuit was filed challenging the sale of land around the San Siro (Giuseppe Meazza) stadium.
The complaint, brought by a local resident, disputes the legality of the transfer of the plots to the two clubs' joint company, Stadio San Siro SpA. The transaction was officially completed on 5 November 2025.
Legal timing under scrutiny
The plaintiff alleges that the Municipality of Milan deliberately accelerated the sale by finalizing the deal only five days before the stadium would have reached 70 years of age. Reaching that 70-year milestone, the suit argues, would have triggered an automatic protection procedure that could have barred any future sale or demolition of the facility.
According to the complaint, municipal authorities proceeded with signing despite formal warnings from their consultants in the days leading up to the closing; those advisers had recommended postponing the transaction as a precautionary measure.
Both clubs had hoped the sale would speed up plans to build a shared new home on the San Siro site. The new legal challenge, however, risks delaying the project and could draw the Municipality of Milan into a lengthy court battle, putting the timing for the start of construction in doubt.
