Iran demands concrete U.S. guarantees to halt the war

Iran is insisting on concrete guarantees from the United States as a precondition for an end to the war, Saeed Hatibzade, head of the Center for Political and International Studies at Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in an interview on Russia-1.

Tehran says diplomatic channel and a seven-day initiative are on the table

Hatibzade told the Russian television channel that Tehran favours resolving disputed issues through diplomacy despite what he described as breaches of commitments and repeated acts of “disloyalty” by the United States during past talks. He said Iran’s approach is encapsulated in a “seven-day plan” or “seven-day initiative” intended to quickly address outstanding questions.

"This plan we presented to the American side through Qatar, and we recently received the other side's position through the Qatari intermediary and during the minister's short stop on his return from New York," Hatibzade said, describing how the initiative has been handled through third-party mediators.

He added that in recent weeks, after "the U.S. government violated the Islamabad agreement," Iran has maintained its defensive readiness at the highest possible level and remains prepared for any scenario.

At the same time, Hatibzade said Iran has continued to try to avert a wider regional crisis by engaging intermediaries including Qatar and Pakistan to present Tehran's proposals as responses to the issues raised by other parties.
