Iran says it has a two‑year plan to withstand new U.S. sanctions

Iranian authorities say the country has prepared a two‑year strategy to absorb and respond to fresh U.S. sanctions, framing the measures as an escalation Washington will not ultimately succeed in. Ali Madanizadeh, Iran's economy minister, told state television that Tehran has tools and plans ready to counter the new pressure.

"The government is prepared and has a two-year plan to deal with these events. We also have our own tools and we know how to play this game," Madanizadeh said, according to state media, adding that Tehran has long anticipated such measures.

Washington unveils "Economic Outcast" campaign

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced an operation titled "Economic Outcast," intended to further isolate Iran from the global financial system. "Our aim is to cut off every economic tie that sustains this regime until Tehran is left alone," U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.

As part of the campaign, the Treasury expanded sanctions to cover digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and maritime transport. Authorities also named nearly 60 companies, individuals and vessels tied to Iran that are now subject to restrictions.

U.S. officials warned countries, banks and firms that continue to facilitate ties with Tehran that they will face consequences; Bessent did not specify a deadline but said the United States does not have limitless patience and will move quickly against those who persist in supporting Iran.

Iran's economy minister said Tehran expects countries such as China and Russia to resist the new measures and signalled hope that other states would also push back against the sanctions.
