Alexander Isak: Transfer from Newcastle to Liverpool was an easy decision
Isak says Liverpool’s ambition and their desire to sign him made the move clear; he recovered from a broken leg and has started the season well.
Alexander Isak said the decision to join Liverpool from Newcastle was straightforward when he moved to Anfield on the final day of the September 2025 transfer window for a British-record fee of £125 million.
“Liverpool is a huge club and everything about the club made things completely clear. Also the club's ambition and their desire to bring me. That played a big role,” Isak told the BBC.
Recovery and early-season form
Isak struggled to find the net in his first season at Anfield before a broken leg sidelined him from December until April. Now 26, he has already matched last season's Premier League total of three goals after only four matches this campaign.
When asked whether he ever regretted the move at any point last season, Isak was categorical. “No, never. I would never think like that. The broken leg was a tough situation for me. Anyone who has had a long injury knows that. But on the other hand, when you are fit and you feel good, you usually don't look back because that does you no good,” he said, adding: “So I just look forward and feel really optimistic and excited about the season and what it can bring.”
Over the summer Isak made his World Cup debut for Sweden, scoring one goal and providing three assists before Graham Potter's side were eliminated by France in the round of 16.
Isak's message was simple: the move to Liverpool was never in doubt for him, and after a difficult spell with injury he is focused on building momentum for club and country.
