LDP demands immediate installation of M‑TAG devices at all tolls to ease queues
LDP says automated M‑TAG tolls should be placed at every toll plaza to relieve daily congestion on North Macedonia’s roads.
The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) urged the government to install M‑TAG electronic toll devices at every toll plaza in North Macedonia without delay, arguing that the measure would reduce frequent congestion and long queues on the country’s highways.
"Weren't two years enough to install M‑TAG devices at all toll stations in the country? How long will you keep harassing citizens? Thousands of people travel on Macedonian roads every day, and instead of passing quickly and efficiently, they wait in long queues because of negligence and poor organization," said Boban Jankoski, member of the LDP Executive Board.
Jankoski also publicly challenged the leadership of the state road company. "I ask the director of JP Makedonija Pat: how much time does he need to install M‑TAG devices at all toll stations in the country? Were two years not enough for him?" he asked.
The party proposes immediate deployment of the devices at every toll booth nationwide to streamline traffic flows on key routes and to reduce delays for motorists travelling between cities and across regions.
Costs and expected gains
According to LDP, the state would cover the one‑time installation cost and recoup benefits over time. "The state will pay once for the installation, and the benefits and savings will be available for years," Jankoski concluded.
LDP warns that without faster rollout of automated tolling, drivers will keep facing daily disruptions and long waits, especially during peak travel periods.
