At 75 she faked her death and revoked her children’s inheritance

A 75-year-old woman who lived alone and tended a balcony full of roses discovered that her children, Stanislav and Marina, had quietly arranged for her move into a care home while they pursued plans for the apartment she had called home for decades.

After falling ill with the flu, she was visited by Stanislav and Marina accompanied by a notary and presented with documents to sign. Told the papers were mere formalities and assured nothing would change, she signed them while still weak and with a fever.

What began as a promised temporary relocation so her children could renovate the apartment turned into permanent exclusion: calls stopped becoming regular, some of her phone calls went unanswered, and the talk of returning home faded away as her children moved forward with their plans.

She found help from the past

Refusing to give up, the woman remembered Dmitrij, her first great love, who later became a successful lawyer. With the help of a nurse at the care home she reestablished contact with him, and he agreed to assist after hearing how Stanislav and Marina had treated her.

With Dmitrij's help she left the care home and moved into a small rented flat by the river, reclaiming control over her life. Then she prepared a shock for her children: a letter with a black border notifying them of her alleged death, accompanied by a testament that, according to the notice they received, bequeathed all her possessions to charitable organizations.

Stanislav and Marina were left with old postcards and a final message. The woman, meanwhile, felt free for the first time in years and used her 75th year to begin anew, proving she would not spend the rest of her life subject to decisions made by others on her behalf.
