Yacht burns and sinks off Čiovo during recovery attempt
Six people evacuated without injuries; MRCC Rijeka coordinated firefighting as the yacht sank to 31 metres in the Trogir Channel

A motor yacht caught fire on the southern side of the island of Čiovo and sank while being recovered in the Trogir Channel, officials said. All six people aboard were safely evacuated and none were injured.
The operation to fight the blaze was coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Rijeka), the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure said.
"Yesterday we took part in the intervention to extinguish a fire on a yacht on the southern side of the island of Čiovo. Together with DVD Trogir, the public fire service of the city of Trogir, DVD Kaštel Gomilica and DVD Okruk, the intervention involved a total of 18 firefighters, 4 vehicles and 2 vessels, together with the Port Authority and the Coast Guard," DVD Trogir wrote on Facebook.
Salvage attempt ended with the vessel sinking
Firefighters worked to contain the blaze, but during the attempt to recover the vessel it sank to a depth of 31 metres in the Trogir Channel. The sunken motor yacht was reported to have gone under as crews were preparing or executing the tow.
The scene was secured by the fireboat "Sveti Florijan" and authorities reported no visible pollution of the sea at the location of the incident. The coordinated response included local volunteer and public fire units alongside port and coast guard services.
