Jakup Huseini nominated by VREDI for mayor of Brvenica
VREDI presented Jakup Huseini, a municipal civil servant with a master's in law, for the 18 October 2026 mayoral by-election in Brvenica.

VREDI today officially presented Jakup Huseini as its candidate for mayor of the Municipality of Brvenica in the extraordinary mayoral election. The vote was scheduled by parliamentary speaker Afrim Gashi for 18 October 2026 after the municipality's mayor, Ivica Ilievski, died on 23 June 2026 at the age of 58.
Background and party rationale
VREDI framed the nomination as a choice of continuity and immediate availability. Huseini holds a master's degree in law and currently serves as a civil servant in the Municipality of Brvenica, the party said.
"Today we announce the candidacy of Jakup Huseini for mayor of the Municipality of Brvenica. Jakup Huseini is a master of legal sciences and currently works as a civil servant in the Municipality of Brvenica. His professional experience and direct work with residents have allowed him to become closely acquainted with the needs, problems and challenges facing the municipality," VREDI said about Huseini.
VREDI emphasized that Huseini's municipal experience would let him begin work without a transition period.
"Our advantage is clear: we do not waste time adapting. Jakup Huseini knows the municipality, the administration, the procedures and the needs of the residents. Therefore, from day one he can be at their service and begin work and concrete responsibilities. With this candidacy we offer a candidate with legal training, professional experience and direct knowledge of the Municipality of Brvenica. From the first day, in service to the residents of Brvenica," the party stated about his candidacy.
The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) will field Arkin Jahiji as its candidate in the same mayoral contest, setting up a direct contest in the upcoming October vote.
