Vesna Janevska: Teachers' pay will be increased again in March 2027

Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska announced that teachers will receive another salary increase in March next year (March 2027), saying the rise is part of the agreement with the Union of Education, Science and Culture (SONK). Janevska made the statement after visiting Ljuben Lape Elementary School in the Aerodrom neighbourhood of Skopje.

Commenting to reporters, she said: "That is certain and in accordance with what was agreed with SONK."

Janevska also sought to reassure teachers about their pay outlook, saying the government plans annual increases. In her words: "There were previously signings, agreements, contracts, there will be, there will not be. We also had a strike. In this case they are secure, they should not worry about salaries, they will increase every year. Next year in March the teachers' salaries will be increased again."

Implementation and school safety measures

The minister repeated that the planned raises follow the negotiated schedule with SONK and framed them as a continuing policy rather than a one-off measure. She underlined that the ministry expects schools to continue applying health and safety protocols when temperatures rise.

During the visit Janevska inspected the school premises and spoke with staff; she stressed the ministry's commitment to gradually improving teachers' earnings while schools maintain operational procedures for extreme heat.
