Houthi fighters strike Saudi energy facilities and cities, more than 70 injured
Attacks on energy facilities and cities in Saudi Arabia wounded more than 70 people amid warnings about Gulf energy infrastructure.
Yemen's Houthi fighters, backed by Iran, carried out attacks on energy facilities and urban areas inside Saudi Arabia, injuring more than 70 people, officials said.
The assaults came after Iran warned that energy infrastructure across the Gulf — including American oil and gas interests — was vulnerable following a recent exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran.
Fires broke out at several energy sites as a result of the strikes, according to initial reports.
Casualties and the Saudi-led coalition's account
A spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said at least 73 people were wounded in attacks on four cities in southern Saudi Arabia. The coalition described the incidents as strikes on both energy installations and population centres.
The Houthis have periodically targeted Saudi territory and infrastructure during the long-running Yemen conflict. The latest wave of attacks highlights continued tensions in the wider Gulf region and risks to commercial energy assets.
