Jordan Mitev fills Wollongong and Sydney, tour continues in Melbourne

Jordan Mitev filled halls in Wollongong and Sydney on the opening leg of his Australian autumn tour, moving the Macedonian community with both music and personal moments shared from the stage.

Videos from the concerts show packed venues and audiences singing along to his biggest hits. Mitev also posted messages and clips on his social pages, thanking the crowds and promising the tour will continue.

Emotional scenes and a couple who danced at 97 and 94

One clip that drew particular attention features Mr. Cane Zipevski, 97, dancing alongside his wife Lena Zipevska, 94. In his post Mitev wrote about meeting many Macedonians across the diaspora and singled out the Zipevski couple as an example of long-standing devotion to tradition.

Translating his words for international readers, Mitev wrote: "Those who do not respect you and do not love you will always find a reason to criticise and humiliate you; those who respect you will always find a reason to honour you. Thank you, Wollongong and Sydney. See you next weekend in Melbourne."

Mitev also reflected on Australia’s special meaning in his life: it was there, on an earlier tour, that he met his wife Slavica. The couple married in 2017 in his native Podareš and are parents to two children — daughter Kristina, who was born in Australia in October 2023, and son Kristian, who recently celebrated his first birthday on the holiday of Krstovden and received baptism.

The Australian run continues this weekend at Q Room Thomastown on 10 October, and after he returns to North Macedonia Mitev plans a major solo concert in Skopje marking 20 years of his music career.
