Manchester United to sign Newcastle left-back Louis Hall
Louis Hall, 21, is expected to be brought in as Manchester United’s answer at left back while Luke Shaw’s deal runs down.
Manchester United have moved to strengthen their left side with 21-year-old Louis Hall, who is set to join the club from Newcastle this summer, sources reported on 03 August 2026.
Hall, a young and highly regarded left back, is the player United have identified as the long-term successor to Luke Shaw. The plan is for Hall to arrive at Old Trafford and compete for a starting berth over the coming months.
Contract timing and role
Shaw's current contract runs for roughly another year and a half, which gives United time to integrate Hall into the first-team picture before having to resolve the veteran's renewal or replacement.
The player has reportedly rejected a return to Chelsea, where he previously played, and has been explicit about his priorities: "only United is an option for him at the moment."
United view Hall as a long-term option on the left flank — someone who can offer defensive solidity while also contributing to attacks down the wing. At 21, he is seen as a player with room to grow into the role.
The move, expected to conclude during the summer transfer window, will reshape competition for the left-back position as United plan the squad for the season ahead.
