Kalin Ivanovski wins in Palermo qualifying

Kalin Ivanovski opened his Palermo campaign with a hard-fought qualifying win, defeating Italy's Giuseppe Vela in three sets after 2 hours and 44 minutes. The Macedonian secured a 2–1 victory, 6–4, 5–7, 6–4, in the first qualifying round of the Palermo Challenger.

Ivanovski grabbed the first set by taking an early break and closing it out 6–4. Vela rallied in the second set, edging Ivanovski 7–5 to force a decider.

Deciding set and what comes next

In the final set Ivanovski produced a crucial break in the ninth game and converted his third match point to seal the win after sustained pressure from both players. The match lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes.

Ivanovski will play in the qualifying final tomorrow against the top seed in qualifying, Federico Arnabaldi, who also won his match today in three sets, beating Andrea De Marchi 2–1.

The Palermo Challenger is a 50-level event with a total prize fund of 256,700.
