Canadian detained in Kumanovo after archaeological artefact seized
Police detained a 37-year-old Canadian in Kumanovo after seizing an archaeological object; charges expected after documentation.
A Canadian citizen was detained early on the morning of August 28, 2026, in Kumanovo after police say they found and seized an archaeological item in his possession.
Investigation
"On 28.08.2026 at 00:30 on 'Done Bozhinov' street in Kumanovo, police officers from the Kumanovo Regional Police Department detained J.A.S. (37) from Canada, because an archaeological item (artefact) was found and seized from him. After complete documentation of the case, an appropriate charge will be filed against him," the police said.
Authorities announced that formal charges will be prepared once the case file is fully documented. No further details about the exact nature, age or origin of the seized object were released immediately.
The investigation is being handled by local police units in Kumanovo; prosecutors will review the documentation once the police complete their on-site procedures.
