Carrick satisfied with the squad he has

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick said he is happy with the outcome of the summer transfer window and with the squad he now has at his disposal. United brought in Carlos Baleba, Andre Santos and Youri Tielemans, Marcus Rashford has returned to the first team, and Joshua Zirkzee has stayed at the club.

"We entered the transfer window with the idea of being stronger as a team than last season and we certainly did that. We are very pleased with the players we brought in. You can always say there are still things we could have done, but sometimes it's a question of opportunities. Generally, I think we're in a good place with the squad. We have great dynamics and players who can play in different positions," Carrick said.

Competition and squad balance

Carrick underlined that maintaining depth across the roster was a priority, and that Zirkzee — who had been linked with a departure — remains an important part of those plans.

"Zirkzee is important for the squad's depth. He's happy to be here and I have a great relationship with him. He wants to play more, but the competition is healthy. We have a lot of games coming and Josh is capable of big things," Carrick added.

United travel to Everton on Sunday, and Carrick acknowledged the challenge that awaits his team at Goodison Park.

"Those are always tough matches. We've had some good results, some not so good, but it's always been difficult. David Moyes is a fantastic manager," he said.
