Carlos Alcaraz cruises into US Open round of 16
The world No. 3 beat Wu Yibing 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 on September 5, 2026 and will face Tommy Paul.

Carlos Alcaraz moved into the round of 16 at the 2026 US Open after a straight-sets victory over Wu Yibing on September 5, 2026.
Decisive moments: early break, late break, then a closing surge
The world No. 3 started strongly, opening with a break to take control of the first set. Wu recovered to level at 3-3, but Alcaraz immediately answered with another break and closed out the opening set 6:3.
The second set proved to be the most competitive and lasted nearly an hour. Alcaraz could not convert earlier chances to pull clear until the final game, when he secured a break and won the set 6:4.
That finish appeared to sap Wu's resistance. The Chinese player managed only one game in the third set, which ended 6:1 and confirmed Alcaraz's straight-sets win. The match lasted less than two and a half hours.
Alcaraz will face Tommy Paul in the next round; Paul had beaten Alex Bublik earlier in the day.
