Karoline Leavitt to leave the White House, Trump announces

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt will leave her post at the end of this month, President Donald Trump announced in a written statement, saying she made the decision to step down in order to spend more time with her family.

In his message Trump wrote: "Our wonderful White House spokeswoman and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be leaving her position at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful little children and family, a decision I fully understand and respect!"

Role after leaving

Trump added that Leavitt will remain within his circle as an outside adviser and that she will continue to play a part in Republican political work ahead of the midterm elections.

Leavitt, 28, was appointed to the White House spokesperson position last year, becoming the youngest person ever to hold the role.

The announcement frames her departure as a family choice while signalling that her public profile and involvement in Republican politics will continue, at least in an advisory capacity as the party prepares for the upcoming electoral calendar.
