Katie Zakaria fired after less than a week as Trump spokeswoman
Zakaria left the post on Friday after starting Monday; Trump said he had encouraged her to consider stepping down.

President Donald Trump’s newly appointed spokeswoman, Katie Zakaria, was dismissed on Friday after serving less than a week in the role, White House personnel confirmed.
Short tenure and public remarks
Trump told reporters he had encouraged Zakaria to think about stepping down. Describing their private exchange, he said he told her that if he were in her position he would reconsider the choice and that he did not think the job was necessary for her.
Zakaria only began working in the role on Monday and had not yet relocated to Washington. The president had offered her the position the previous Friday — a decision that drew attention because Zakaria had been a relatively obscure Fox News commentator and was not widely known inside the West Wing.
Her appointment was backed by Natalie Harp, an influential aide who frequently accompanies the president, but other staff members questioned her communications skills and described her first appearances as a poor debut.
Trump also suggested Zakaria might continue to work for him in a different, less public capacity.
The rapid turnover underscores ongoing instability in senior communications roles at the White House.
