Kielce, Zagreb and Veszprém win opening round; PSG rescued a draw in Aalborg
Round 1 of the EHF Champions League on 9 September 2026 produced narrow victories for Kielce and Zagreb, a big Veszprém win and a late PSG escape in Aalborg.

The new season of the EHF Champions League kicked off on the evening of 9 September 2026 with several close contests and comfortable wins for some of Europe’s top sides.
Key results and scorers from round 1
Kielce edged past Krins in a narrow contest, winning 30:29. Vlah finished as Kielce’s top scorer with eight goals, while Šipić also netted eight for the visitors.
Zagreb prevailed 31:29 against Celje in an entertaining match. Bialiauski starred for Zagreb with nine goals, while Anžić produced an impressive 11 for Celje.
Aalborg and Paris Saint-Germain played out a dramatic 33:33 draw. The hosts led deep into the game, but PSG salvaged a point late on. Hodžer and Knor scored seven goals apiece for Aalborg; for PSG, Solé was the match-winner in effect, finishing with 10 goals to rescue his team from defeat.
Veszprém produced the clearest margin of the evening, beating Porto 36:28 at home. Descat and Remili each contributed seven goals for Veszprém, while Moraes Silva scored seven for Porto.
The opening round set the tone for a competitive season ahead, with several teams already showing the firepower they will rely on in the group phase.
