Basketball federation opens wildcard contest to fill one Super League spot
The federation launched a contest for a single wildcard after KK Chair 2030 failed licensing checks; applications are open from 10 to 20 August 2026.

The Basketball Federation of North Macedonia has opened a public call for a wildcard to fill one vacant spot in the men's Super League for the 2026/27 season, after a club failed to meet licensing requirements.
Final standings and the created vacancy
Based on the final classification of the 2025/26 season and the federation's applicable regulations, the following clubs retained sporting rights for the top tier: KK MZT Skopje Aerodrom AD – Skopje; KK Madžari AD – Skopje; KK Pelister AD – Bitola; KK TFT AD – Skopje; KK Kozhuv AD – Gevgelija; KK Tikvesh Golden Igl AD – Kavadarci; MKK Kumanovo AD – Kumanovo; KK Chair 2030 AD – Skopje; KK Rabotnicki AD – Skopje; and KK Strumica 2001 AD – Strumica, the winner of the First Macedonian League – men for 2025/26.
The final ranking confirms that the first nine clubs kept the sporting right for the highest level, while KK Feniks 2010 – Skopje, KK Gostivar and KK Angeli – Skopje, as the bottom three, were relegated to the First Macedonian League.
After completion of the licensing procedure and the expiry of the deadline for appeals related to financial discipline obligations, it was established that KK Chair 2030 AD – Skopje did not meet the federation's conditions to compete in the Super League for 2026/27. Because the club failed to fulfil the prescribed requirements, it will not exercise the sporting right to participate in the Super League for the coming season, creating one (1) vacant place in the top division.
The federation emphasises that this does not mean exclusion of the club from the competition system. In line with the current Propositions, a club that does not meet the obligation under Article 7.1 does not gain the right to play at the higher level but is transferred one tier lower. KK Chair 2030 AD may still take part in the First Macedonian League – men for 2026/27 provided it first fulfils all financial, administrative, licensing and other obligations set by the federation's acts and decisions.
On the basis of Board decision No. 02-308/7 dated 29.05.2026, the federation published the contest for awarding a wildcard and filling the single vacant spot. Eligible to apply is any club from a lower competition level that considers itself to meet all conditions prescribed by the federation's acts for participation at the top tier. Submission of an application does not automatically create the right to promotion.
Interested clubs must satisfy organisational, infrastructural, administrative and financial criteria, with particular emphasis on financial discipline. Licence documentation must include confirmation of settled financial obligations from previous and the current competition season; incomplete or late documentation will not be considered. The club that secures participation via wildcard must make an advance payment of 40,000 euros in denar equivalent to the federation's account as a mandatory condition for realising the right to compete.
Applications will be accepted from 10 to 20 August 2026. After the application deadline, the licensing commission will verify submitted documents and compliance with the conditions; the Board of the Basketball Federation of North Macedonia will make the final decision on awarding the wildcard and complete the Super League composition for 2026/27. The procedure will be carried out according to the principles of equal treatment, transparency, financial discipline and legal certainty, and the federation will inform the public once the final decision is adopted.
