Kily González appointed Inter Miami head coach; will join once work permits are approved
Cristian "Kily" González, 52, will assume the role after his work permits are approved; Guillermo Hoyos to continue in charge on an interim basis.

28.08.2026 — Inter Miami have named Cristian "Kily" González as their new head coach, the American club announced on Friday. The 52-year-old Argentine will take charge once he secures the necessary work permits.
“González will officially assume his duties once he obtains the appropriate work permits. Guillermo Hoyos will continue to lead the team temporarily until the arrival of the new head coach and his coaching staff,” Inter Miami announced.
From top-flight player to MLS bench
González is well known to followers of European football: during his playing career the former Argentina international represented Rosario Central, Boca Juniors, Zaragoza, Valencia and Inter Milan. He earned 56 caps for the Argentina national team.
He built his coaching resume in Argentina, managing Rosario Central, Unión Santa Fe and Platense. The post at Inter Miami is his first job outside Argentina and gives him the immediate opportunity to work with one of the game’s all-time greats, Lionel Messi.
The appointment comes as Inter Miami struggle for results. Messi’s side have failed to win their last five matches across all competitions, and ending that negative run will be among González’s first tasks.
The hiring continues an Argentine thread on Miami’s bench: Messi previously worked under Tata Martino and Javier Mascherano at the club, and now will be led by another compatriot.
