Health ministers from North Macedonia and Bulgaria signed a bilateral cooperation plan for 2026–2028 during a meeting in Sofia.

Minister of Health Sasho Klekovski and his Bulgarian counterpart Katya Ivkova endorsed a framework designed to deepen institutional ties and increase practical collaboration between the two ministries.

Areas of work and practical measures

The plan foresees exchange of information and experience, secondment of specialists for training and consultations, joint participation in scientific and medical events, and implementation of shared research and practical projects. It also includes cooperation on organizing courses and seminars.

“Priority cooperation areas have been defined as primary and specialized medical care, hospital health care, prevention and control of infectious and non-communicable diseases, as well as epidemiological surveillance, medical statistics, organization of health response in emergencies, e-health, and other areas of mutual interest,” the Ministry of Health said.

Officials described the agreement as an additional step toward strengthening good-neighbourly relations and institutional cooperation, aimed at exchanging knowledge and best practices and improving the quality and accessibility of health services for citizens.

Both ministries will now work on practical implementation steps and timelines for projects and exchanges foreseen under the 2026–2028 programme.
