Parliamentary committee backs sending 32 soldiers to EU operation ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Security backed a proposal to send members of the Army to the European Union operation “ALTHEA” in Bosnia and Herzegovina and forwarded the measure to the full Parliament for further procedure.

At the committee’s 52nd session, Defence Minister Vlado Misajlovski presented and explained the draft decision to lawmakers.

Details of the deployment

“This is a current decision to send members of the Army to the European Union operation ‘ALTHEA’ in Bosnia and Herzegovina; we are sending 32 members for a period of six months, from November 2026 to May 2027. All costs are provided in the budget of the Ministry of Defence,” the minister explained.

The committee’s support means the measure will go forward in Parliament, where lawmakers will consider final approval for the deployment and the accompanying budgetary provisions.

The decision, as presented, covers a six‑month rotation of 32 personnel and specifies that the Ministry of Defence budget will cover all related expenses.
