Companies sent tariff requests to RKE — what households may pay from January 1

Several energy companies have submitted their cost calculations to the Regulatory Commission for Energy (RKE) as the process to set new electricity tariffs for households and small consumers from January 1 begins.

MEMO, Elektrodistribucija and ESM — Energetika branch filed their requests by the September 30 deadline. Some filings specify the requested adjustments: ESM—Energetika, which handles distribution to firms in the steelworks zone, seeks an almost 53 percent increase in its distribution fee, from 0.4 to 0.6 denars per kilowatt-hour.

MEMO did not ask for any correction. Elektrodistribucija’s submission does not include a final distribution price because the company has not yet completed the electricity procurement procedure to cover losses. MEPSO has not delivered its request; the operator says it will finalize and send its calculations tomorrow.

MEPSO commented: "Having in mind that the new Rulebook was adopted only one day before the deadline for submitting the Request, and that it introduced additional requirements for data and an analytical presentation of revenues and costs in the regulated period, additional time was needed for processing, harmonization and verification of the data. MEPSO will finalize and submit the Request to the RCE during tomorrow," the operator said.

Ultimately, what households will pay from January 1 will largely depend on ESM’s price for produced electricity. At present, that price is 65 euros per megawatt-hour; ESM must deliver a new offer by the end of November. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has several times said authorities are trying to keep the price unchanged or even reduce it.

Meanwhile, requests from other energy companies also arrived at the regulator: NOMAGAS has asked for a 37 percent higher fee for gas transmission, citing increased investments in recent periods. On energy exchanges prices are rising — electricity has exceeded 200 euros per megawatt-hour and gas rose to 86 euros per megawatt-hour, the highest level since December 2022 — developments that will influence domestic tariffs.
