Corridor 9A opens for transit freight through Republika Srpska
The Zagreb–Novi Sad freight service began on 5 October 2026 in cooperation between the Railways of Republika Srpska and Croatia's Log Rail, creating a direct transit route to Adriatic ports.

On 5 October 2026 the first transit freight train using Corridor 9A began running through Republika Srpska, establishing a new rail link intended to speed up goods movement between the European Union, the Western Balkans and the broader region.
The Zagreb–Novi Sad service was organised in cooperation between the Railways of Republika Srpska and the Croatian rail operator Log Rail. The new route crosses Republika Srpska territory from Volinija via Dobojlin and Zvornik to Brasinja, creating a direct transit corridor between Croatia and Serbia.
Regional logistics significance
"The official start of the successful cooperation on the Croatia – Serbia – Croatia route via Republika Srpska is a guarantee for fast transit and reliable transport of all types of goods within freight rail traffic," the Railways of Republika Srpska said in a statement.
The companies said the joint organisation of traffic aims to provide faster, more reliable and more economical freight transport across the region. The new link is expected to strengthen connections with major Adriatic ports—Rijeka and Koper—improving logistics and accelerating the movement of goods toward European markets.
Railways of Republika Srpska invited other regional rail operators to join the initiative to increase transit volumes and better utilise Balkan rail infrastructure. Observers note the corridor could also benefit landlocked states such as North Macedonia by improving access to European logistics routes.
