Kosovo Women’s Network urges inclusion of femicide in Criminal Code
KWN met with Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu to demand legal changes, more funding for social workers and inclusion of women's organisations in decision-making.

The Kosovo Women’s Network (KWN) met with the Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, and asked that femicide and technology-enabled violence be explicitly added to Kosovo’s Criminal Code.
Key demands from the meeting
KWN proposed legal amendments that would criminalize femicide and violence facilitated by digital tools, and urged stronger mechanisms for protection and case handling in incidents of gender-based violence. The group also pressed for guaranteed, adequate funding for social workers and specialized services that deal with victims.
Representatives stressed the importance of backing women’s rights organizations and ensuring their meaningful participation in decision-making processes related to prevention and response to gender-based violence.
In recent days KWN sent letters with its recommendations to 120 members of parliament, the prime minister and several ministers, saying the proposals are grounded in research and professional expertise.
The appeal was prompted in part by the recent killing of Arlinda Zekaj, who, according to the information cited at the meeting, was killed on Sunday night by her son-in-law.
