Man driving at 220 km/h on A1 motorway arrested; he exceeded the limit by 100 km/h

On August 3, 2026, a 36-year-old Kosovar national identified by the initials Sh.Z. was detained after police found he had been driving at 220 kilometres per hour on the A1 motorway, where the speed limit is 120 kilometres per hour.
The stop took place at the parking area near Miletkovo at 08:41. Police officers from the Strumica Regional Police Directorate and the Gevgelija Police Department carried out the arrest.
Details of the offence
Authorities say Sh.Z. was operating a passenger vehicle with Kosovo registration plates and exceeded the permitted speed by 100 kilometres per hour. The excessive speed was recorded on the A1 motorway.
A criminal complaint will be filed against him for reckless driving of a motor vehicle. The case is now with investigative authorities who will decide on further procedural steps.
Police statements indicate this intervention was part of routine traffic control on the main north–south artery, and officers underscored ongoing efforts to detect and sanction high-risk driving that endangers other road users.
