This approach provides the perfect opportunity for the 41-year-old veteran to gracefully bow out of international duty in front of a home crowd.

Ronaldo leaves behind a legacy that will be incredibly difficult to surpass. With 233 appearances and 146 goals, he is the absolute record holder in the Portuguese jersey. His contributions were crucial in winning the European Championship eight years ago, as well as securing two Nations League trophies.
