Short-lived afternoon instability — isolated downpours and thunder expected

A brief episode of atmospheric instability is expected across North Macedonia this afternoon, with isolated downpours, thunder and gusty winds possible in the affected zones, meteorologist Slavcho Poposki warned.

"In parts of the Skopje region and the basin, during the afternoon hours there will be conditions for short-lived instability accompanied by heavy rain, thunder and strengthened wind in the area of instability," Poposki said.

He added that the instability will be local and not widespread. "However, this instability that I expect will not be of very large intensity, so I do not expect a major storm and there is no reason for concern among citizens," he said.

Expectations and temperatures

"In the morning the temperatures will drop in the range from 11 to 19 degrees, and the maximum temperatures will rise in the range from 29 to 37 degrees. In Skopje and the surrounding area the morning temperature will drop to about 18 degrees, and the maximum temperature will climb to about 35 degrees," Poposki said.

Authorities and services do not expect widespread severe weather, but people in areas with convective clouds should be prepared for brief heavy showers, thunder and sudden gusts this afternoon.
