Krista Pike released from hospital after failed execution
Returned to prison and receiving medical care, Pike survived two execution attempts on September 30; a court ordered preservation of all related evidence.

Krista Pike, sentenced to death in the U.S. state of Tennessee, was released from hospital ten days after an unsuccessful attempt to execute her by lethal injection.
Her attorneys said she has been returned to the prison, where she continues to receive medical care. Pike survived two attempts to carry out the death sentence on September 30 and was left in critical condition.
In the days after the failed execution she regained consciousness and began speaking again, although her legal team had feared she had suffered serious consequences.
Case and legal follow-up
Pike was convicted for the killing of 19-year-old Kolin Slemer, committed in 1995 when Pike was 18 years old. It is not yet known whether Tennessee officials will attempt to carry out the death penalty again.
A court ordered that all evidence related to the unsuccessful execution be preserved; those materials could form the basis for a possible lawsuit against the state.
