Christiane Amanpour to leave CNN after 43 years; exit set for June

Christiane Amanpour, one of the best-known faces of international television reporting, will end her 43-year career in broadcast journalism when she departs CNN in June next year.

Career and schedule changes

Amanpour began at CNN as an assistant and over the decades built a reputation covering wars, regional conflicts and major political crises around the world. Her reporting established her as a leading international correspondent and anchor.

Her daily program, Amanpour, will be reduced to a weekly slot from the start of next year and is scheduled to stop airing in May. Amanpour, who serves as the chief anchor for CNN International, will leave the network in June.

In addition, her PBS program Amanpour & Company will cease broadcast by the end of this year. Amanpour has said she intends to continue working on other media formats.

She will keep hosting a podcast alongside her former husband, Jamie Rubin, a former U.S. diplomat. The 68-year-old said yesterday that she is looking forward to devoting herself to new and interesting projects.
