Christopher Nkunku returns to RB Leipzig
28-year-old forward arrives on loan from AC Milan with an option to buy; reported fees are €3.5m for the loan and €30m for a permanent transfer.

RB Leipzig has completed the loan signing of 28-year-old forward Christopher Nkunku from AC Milan. The German club announced the move on 25 August 2026, describing the deal as an initial loan with an option to make the transfer permanent.
The reported loan fee stands at €3.5 million, while the option to buy would cost €30 million if Leipzig choose to trigger it.
Nkunku previously spent four seasons at Leipzig between 2019 and 2023 before moving to Chelsea. He then joined AC Milan in August 2025 in a deal worth €37 million.
The return gives Leipzig an experienced attacker who already knows the club’s environment and style from his earlier spell. The loan structure allows the club to assess fit and fitness before any long-term commitment.
From the player’s perspective, the move represents a return to familiar surroundings and a chance to re-establish his form in the Bundesliga after spells in the Premier League and Serie A.
Leipzig will now integrate Nkunku into their squad as they prepare for the remainder of the 2026/27 season and decide whether to exercise the purchase option later.
