The women's "Šparkase Life" First League opens on October 17, 2026, with defending champions Kriva Palanka facing Vardar in the season's opening match. The game is scheduled to start at 16:00.
Kriva Palanka begin the defence of the domestic title after claiming the Super Cup earlier this season, and they enter the campaign as one of the favourites to fight for the top positions.
Coaches set cautious, competitive tone
Vardar's coach Aleksandar Ashadanov emphasised the desire for a strong, consistent campaign and underlined his team's profile ahead of the fixture.
"I expect, above all, a high-quality and competitive league, with many unpredictable games. For us the biggest challenge will be to build stability in our play and continuity throughout the season. We have a team with potential, but we also have a large room for improvement. Our ambition is to be competitive in every match and to fight for the top positions. We want to build a team that will be recognizable for its character and that will progress from game to game. Success for us would be to know at the end of the season that we reached our real potential and that we are in a position to fight for trophies. I am satisfied with the roster we have. We have a mix of more experienced and younger players, which gives us a good base for development and competitiveness. Our style will be based on aggressive defense, team play, quick transition and disciplined offense. I want us to be a team that plays with energy and character in every match," said Vardar coach Aleksandar Ashadanov.
Kriva Palanka coach Viktor Petrovski said his side will focus on steady progress and match-by-match improvements as they aim to remain among the title contenders.
"I expect a season with many unpredictable games. Every team will have its ambitions, and for us the biggest challenge will be to maintain stability and the level of play throughout the season. We will go step by step and focus on each next game. To continue to improve and to be better from match to match. Our ambitions are again to be among the teams that will fight for the top positions. After a successful last season, we want to continue in the same rhythm. For me, success would be for the team to remain competitive until the very end. To have character and continuity and together to make another step forward. I am satisfied with the roster and the character of the group. I have great confidence in these players and I believe we can play aggressive, fast and team basketball. I want us to be a team that plays together, fights for every ball and gives maximum in every match," said Kriva Palanka coach Viktor Petrovski.
